The Red Fox of Tirlstone

· c. 1924–1927

# Content Description

"The Red Fox of Tirlstone" is a medieval adventure serial. The Saxon thane Leofric and knight Sir Eustace Alleyne ride out to confront Gaston Malvoisin, the "Red Fox," a disgraced Norman knight turned outlaw who terrorizes the countryside from Tirlstone with his band of brigands. They are joined by Bertram, Leofric's dwarf retainer, seeking revenge for his burned cottage. Near the river Don, they encounter the Red Fox's camp and engage his men in battle. As they face overwhelming numbers, Robin Hood, Little John, and Friar Tuck arrive and turn the tide, driving the Red Fox's followers into the marshland. After the battle, Much the Miller's son arrives with urgent news: Sheriff Henwick Beauclerc has captured Maid Marian and Winifreda, threatening them with execution for witchcraft unless Robin Hood and Allan-a-Dale surrender themselves at Nottingham Castle within three days.
