The Wolf Master by Harold Lamb

This December 1926 issue of Adventure magazine features Harold Lamb's complete novel set during the early 17th-century Time of Troubles in Russia. The story opens on a snowed steppe village where three Cossacks—the young Kirdy, the giant warrior Ayub, and an elderly companion—arrive seeking fresh horses amid distant cannon fire.
