# The Cowboy's Magazine, June 1948
This issue features two full-length westerns and five shorter stories. "Gun-Doc of the Devil's Range" by Cliff M. Bisbee follows young Doc Pete Benbow, a quarter-Ute veterinary surgeon, who has killed a card sharp in self-defense and faces execution. Sheriff Reb Keener extracts him from jail for a mysterious midnight ride, presumably orchestrated by the saloon owner. "Through Hell to Santa Fe!" by M. Howard Lane involves Jerico Jordan, a treacherous trader who will accept only one payment for goods: a tombstone bearing Cliff Sargent's name. Additional stories include "Thirteen Killers to Go!" by H. Frederic Young, depicting Jim O'Leary's assault on a criminal crew; "Steel Sabers—Iron Guts!" by Joseph Chadwick, involving a cavalry rescue; and "The Wearing of the Star" by William Heuman, featuring a reformed outlaw facing execution. The issue also includes a historical fact piece on western figures.
