# A. Merritt's Fantasy, April 1950, Volume 1, Number 3
This issue features two works of supernatural and historical fantasy. "The Ninth Life" by Jack Mann (a pen name for E. Charles Vivian, an English author of works like City of Wonder) tells of a woman whose ageless beauty and power derive from sacred Cats of Sekhmet at her side. "The Little Doll Died," by Theodore Roscoe, combines voodoo, savagery, and rebellion within an ancient Haitian mystery set in jungle terrain. Both stories originally appeared in Popular Publications Inc. issues from 1939-1940. The magazine includes an editor's column introducing the authors, noting Roscoe's background in travel and history across India, Tibet, and Haiti, and soliciting information about the elusive Vivian's whereabouts since 1947. The June issue will feature A. Merritt's classic "The Face in the Abyss" about Americans searching for Inca treasure in Peru, and Eric North's "The Green Flame," depicting a mad scientist's attempt at world domination through water combustion.
