# A. Merritt's Fantasy Magazine, Volume 1, No. 2, February 1950
This issue contains three reprinted fantasy and weird fiction stories. "The Smoking Land" by George Challis (pseudonym of Frederick Faust) begins on page 8, an adventure narrative involving a ranchman named Smoky Bill who embarks on an extraordinary voyage to remote regions where dangerous men plan to weaponize atomic science. "Three Lines of Old French" by A. Merrill (page 102) concerns a man tormented by whether his vision of a woman named Lucie exists only in his imagination. "The Seal Maiden" by Victor Rousseau (page 116) explores the question of whether mortal love has granted a supernatural being a soul. The issue also features an editor's column previewing upcoming fantasy stories, a readers' letters section, and Ray Cummings's article "The Science of Time-Travel." All three stories are reprinted from earlier Popular Publications issues dating from 1913–1937.
