# A. Merritt's Fantasy, Volume 1, Number 1 (December 1949)

This inaugural issue of a magazine devoted to A. Merritt's work features two fantasy stories. The lead story, "Creep, Shadow" by A. Merritt (reprinted from 1934/1942), follows four modern New Yorkers lured to a strange death in a mysterious realm from centuries past. The secondary story, "Footsteps Invisible" by Robert Arthur (1940), describes an audible tread pursuing its quarry through time until a debt—a breach of an unspecified non-human law—is finally paid.

The issue includes supplementary fantasy content: a five-question "Fantasy Quiz" testing science-fiction readers' knowledge of theoretical physics and atmospheric science, and an editorial introducing the magazine's mission to reprint Merritt's complete works alongside stories by other established fantasy writers. The next issue is announced for January 4th.
