· December 1949

# Contents of A. Merritt's Fantasy Magazine, December 1949, Issue #1

This inaugural issue features two stories. "Creep, Shadow!" by A. Merritt (10 pages) transports four modern New Yorkers to an otherworldly realm from 15,000 years ago, promising a "weird and terrible" encounter with an alien world. The story originally appeared in Popular Publications, Inc. publications from 1934-1942.

"Footsteps Invisible" by Robert Arthur (118 pages) presents a supernatural tale of an inexplicable footstep that follows the protagonist through measureless time as payment for violating an unwritten law, also drawn from earlier Popular Publications material (1940).

The issue includes a "Fantasy Quiz" testing readers' science-fiction knowledge on topics ranging from space acoustics to atmospheric composition, and an editor's column introducing the magazine's commitment to publishing Merritt's complete works alongside fantasy stories by other writers. Supporting material includes advertisements for various mail-order products and instructional guides.
