# Guy Earlscourt's Wife
This 1900 Street & Smith publication reprints Guy Earlscourt's Wife by May Agnes Fleming, originally copyrighted in 1872. The serial opens with an adventure narrative featuring Duke Mason, a young artist who loses his way near Speckhaven in Lincolnshire. Exploring the forbidding Lyndith Grange—a mansion long considered haunted—Mason encounters the mysterious occupants: a dark, grim gentleman and a heavily veiled lady who arrived two years prior. The narrative shifts to recount a dramatic nocturnal medical emergency when the gentleman summons Dr. Worth through a violent storm. Within the Grange's vast oak-paneled chamber, the doctor attends the lady's confinement, delivering an infant by half-past midnight. The story combines Gothic atmosphere, melodramatic domestic mystery, and romance conventions typical of the period's serial fiction.
