True to His Colors: or, The Dynamite Terror of Chesapeake Bay
Sinclair, Upton, 1878-1968 · February 11, 1899
This issue of True Blue contains a serial adventure by Ensign Clarke Fitch titled "True to His Colors." The opening chapter, "A Cadet Rescue," introduces Naval Academy cadets Clif Faraday, Vic Rollins, and Ridgely, who respond to a distress call on the streets of Annapolis. They find fellow plebe Fishcake being attacked by a slim fugitive armed with trowel-bladed throwing knives carried in an iron pail. After the attacker flees, the cadets discover a second knife-wielder pursuing an innocent man through the streets. This second assailant methodically hurls three knives into the victim's back before escaping. The chapter concludes as Clif pursues the murderer. The narrative combines military academy setting with mystery and violent action, focusing on the cadets' investigation into an organized assassination plot.
