This issue of Log Cabin Library (No. 101, November 15, 1899) contains the serial "Gentleman Joe's Leadville Lead; or, Foxy Fan's Flush," by the author of "Gentleman Joe."
The story opens in Leadville, Colorado, where Gentleman Joe Gentry meets with the hot-headed Kit Kimball (Kid-Glove Kit), who threatens violence against a man named Hime Henderson over stolen papers. Joe counsels restraint, warning Kit that reckless words could lead to hanging. After Joe departs for Denver, an unmistakable cry for help draws him to a torture scene: a man bound to a panicked horse with rope while whipped by assailants. Joe intervenes, cutting the victim free—only to face a revolver pointed at his chest by Foxy Fan, a notorious faro sharp known for both card-playing skill and revolver expertise. The story appears to involve a violent confrontation in a rough mining town, with multiple plotlines concerning revenge, gambling, and disputed papers converging through these competing characters.
