The print attacks the Patriot faction's challenge to established authority during the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War, using composition descended from Hogarth's narrative moral prints. The engraver employs fine line-work typical of period political satire, rendering both the crowd's disorder and architectural precision with equal detail. The floating demons and tumultuous crowd echo Northern European broadsheet traditions of Bilderbogen picture-sheets, which layered multiple episodes and moral commentary into single images—visual strategies later adapted by 19th-century caricaturists like Gillray and eventually by comic strip narratives.
