Potamogeton thunbergii Cham. & Schltdl.

· Collected 11 June 1837, Ethiopia (Adowa)

This is a pressed herbarium specimen, not a satirical print — no wall label for a caricature exhibition can honestly be written for it. The sheet shows a dried aquatic plant (Potamogeton richardii Solms, synonym P. thunbergii) collected during Wilhelm Schimper's Abyssinian expedition and later revised by Z. Kaplan in 2002 as an isolectotype. Its labels, stamp, and barcode belong to the history of natural-history collecting, not print satire. Mounting it in a comic-art lineage from Hogarth to Nast would be invention. The specimen deserves accurate botanical description, not a fabricated curatorial narrative.
