Polypodium fraternum Schltdl. & Cham. — Herbarium Specimen

This is not a cartoon or caricature. It is a pressed fern specimen — a herbarium sheet from the collection of John Smith, Curator of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, 1842–1862, purchased 1866 and now held at the Natural History Museum, London. The frond, with its characteristic pinnate leaflets and visible sori (spore clusters) on the undersides, was later designated a type specimen for Polypodium fraternum. A color-calibration target and metric rule appear for photographic documentation. No satirical, political, or caricature content is present. This image does not belong in an exhibition on the print-satire tradition descending from Hogarth, Gillray, or Daumier.
