Cartoons & Caricature

Elaphoglossum vestitum (Schltdl. & Cham.) Schott.

· Collected before 1874; mounted specimen, Royal Botanic Gardens collection

This is a herbarium specimen — a pressed and dried fern, Elaphoglossum vestitum, a tongue fern native to Central America — not a cartoon or caricature. The mount shows several dried fronds, both fertile and sterile, attached to a cream sheet with handwritten collector's annotations, a color-reference chart, a scale bar, and an institutional label from the Royal Botanic Gardens. It belongs to the tradition of natural history illustration and scientific collecting, not print satire. No political, satirical, or caricature content is present. A wall label for a comics exhibition cannot honestly be written from this image.
