Stanley Pitt
Stanley John Joseph Pitt was born on 2 March 1925 in Australia and died on 2 April 2002. He is best remembered as the first Australian comic artist to have original work published by a major American comic book company. Pitt began his career in the 1940s, often collaborating with his brother, Reginald Pitt. His most recognized work includes the jungle adventure series *Yarmak Jungle King Comic*, as well as contributions to romance titles like *Romantic Love* and anthology series such as *Captain George's Comic World* and *King Size Comic*. He also worked on American titles, notably *Airboy* and *Silver Starr*, handling art, inking, lettering, and occasionally writing. Pitt’s style was clean and dynamic, suited to both action and romance genres. He remained active in the industry until 1972, leaving behind a body of work that bridged Australian and American comic markets. While major awards are not recorded in his biography, his pioneering role in bringing Australian talent to U.S. publishers marks a significant legacy.
