Sarah Hoyt was born on November 18, 1962, in Portugal, and later became an American citizen. She is best known for her work across science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and historical fiction. Her novel *Darkship Thieves* won the 2011 Prometheus Award for Best Libertarian SF Novel, and she co-won the 2018 Dragon Award for Best Alternate History Novel for *Uncharted*, with Kevin J. Anderson. Hoyt has written under several pseudonyms, including Sarah D'Almeida, Elise Hyatt, and Laurien Gardner. In the comics field, she has been credited as a writer on 13 issues from 2021 to 2023, most notably for *Barbarella* and *Barbarella: The Center Cannot Hold*. She also led the Sad Puppies campaign in its final year of nominating candidates. Her legacy includes a diverse body of novels and a brief but notable entry into comic book writing.
