Ryoichi Ikegami, born May 29, 1944, in Japan, is a manga artist known primarily as an illustrator working in partnership with writers. His most celebrated works include *Crying Freeman* (1986–1988), a collaboration with writer Kazuo Koike, and *Heat* (1999–2004), created with writer Buronson (Sho Fumimura). *Heat* earned the 2001 Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga. Ikegami’s style is marked by gritty, detailed realism and dynamic action sequences, often exploring crime, violence, and moral ambiguity. He has also worked on *Sanctuary*, another notable series. His career spans decades, with his earliest credited work in our catalog appearing in 1987. Ikegami’s influence extends to his former assistant, Yoshihide Fujiwara. In 2023, he received the Fauves d'Honneur at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, a testament to his lasting impact on the medium. He remains active, with credits through 2024.
