Roxanne Starr
Roxanne Starr is an American graphic designer and comic book letterer, best known for her crisp, expressive lettering that anchored the visual identity of several cult-favorite independent titles. Born in the United States, she entered the comics industry in 1984 and remained active through 2019, amassing credits on over 100 issues. Her most frequent collaborator was writer-artist Bob Burden, on whose surreal series *Flaming Carrot Comics* she worked extensively, including on the *Flaming Carrot Comics Collected Album*. Starr also lettered the crime comic *Jinx*, the anthology *Kilroy Is Here*, the superhero series *Prime*, and the sci-fi title *Espers*. Her lettering style—clean, readable, and subtly integrated with the art—helped define the look of these offbeat, creator-owned projects. Beyond lettering, she contributed as an artist, colorist, and inker. Starr’s later career saw her continue to work in graphic design, though her comics output slowed after the 1990s. She has not received major industry awards, but her steady, professional craft earned her respect among peers in the small-press and alternative-comics scenes. Her legacy is that of a reliable, versatile hand who helped bring some of the era’s most distinctive independent comics to life.
