Born in Belgium on 17 November 1933, Roger Leloup built his early career as a key studio assistant to Hergé, contributing the precise, technically detailed draftsmanship that helped give *The Adventures of Tintin* its distinctive visual authority. That apprenticeship clearly shaped Leloup's own aesthetic — a rigorous eye for architecture, machinery, and authentic period or geographical detail that would later define his independent work.

He is best known today as the creator of *Yoko Tsuno*, the science-fiction adventure series centered on a Japanese female electrical engineer who moves between earthly intrigue and encounters with an alien civilization. The series broke notable ground by placing a capable, non-European woman at its center at a time when such protagonists were rare in European comics. Leloup has served as artist, inker, letterer, and writer across the property, demonstrating an unusually complete command of the craft. The series has appeared in collected editions under several imprints, including Carlsen Pocket, and has sustained his activity in the medium from the late 1950s through the 2020s — a span of roughly seven decades reflected in credits across nearly 200 issues.

Leloup is also a novelist, extending his storytelling beyond the comics page. His longevity and the enduring popularity of *Yoko Tsuno* across multiple European markets cement his standing as one of Belgium's most distinctive post-Hergé voices in the Franco-Belgian tradition.
