Rick Spears is an American comic book writer best known for the series *Teenagers from Mars* and *The Pirates of Coney Island*. Born in the United States, Spears began his comics career in the early 2000s, working across a range of genres with a sharp, often irreverent voice. He is most active from 2003 to 2014, contributing as both writer and letterer on 14 issues. His signature work includes the creator-owned *The Pirates of Coney Island*, a swashbuckling tale set in a fantastical version of the famous boardwalk, and the horror-tinged *Black Metal*. Spears also wrote for major publishers, notably on *Detective Comics* and *Immortal Weapons* for DC, and *Axis: Carnage* for Marvel. He collaborated frequently with artists such as Rob G and Chuck BB, bringing a punk-rock energy to his storytelling. Later in his career, Spears turned to the satirical series *The Auteur*, co-created with artist James Callahan. While not a recipient of major industry awards, his work has earned a cult following for its offbeat humor and genre-blending ambition. Spears remains a distinctive voice in alternative and mainstream comics, with his most celebrated projects still in print.
