Richard Piers Rayner
Richard Piers Rayner is an English comic book artist best known for illustrating *Road to Perdition*. Born in England, his career in comics began in the late 1980s. Rayner’s style is marked by a moody, atmospheric realism, well-suited to crime and horror. He became a frequent collaborator with writer Garth Ennis, most notably on the *Hellblazer* series, where his detailed, shadowy work defined John Constantine’s world. His signature achievement is the graphic novel *Road to Perdition*, a Depression-era crime story that was later adapted into a major film. Rayner also contributed to *Crisis*, *L.E.G.I.O.N. '91*, and the European series *Agent X9*. His later work included the *John Constantine, Hellblazer: 30th Anniversary Celebration*. Active from 1988 to 2019, Rayner’s legacy is that of a craftsman who brought a cinematic, somber elegance to British and American comics. He received critical acclaim for his *Road to Perdition* art, though major industry awards are not widely recorded. He remains a respected figure among fans of mature, character-driven graphic storytelling.
