Richard "Rick" Marschall, born February 3, 1949, is an American writer, editor, and comic strip historian. Bostonia magazine once called him "America's foremost authority on pop culture." He began his career in the late 1970s, editing for Marvel Comics, Disney comics, and multiple syndicates. His written work appears in titles such as *The Complete Little Nemo in Slumberland*, *Marvel Super Special*, and *Popeye* (E.C. Segar's strip). He also contributed to *The Comics Journal* and the anthology *Nemo: The Classic Comics Library*. Marschall's signature style combines scholarly rigor with a deep affection for vintage newspaper strips, particularly the work of Winsor McCay and Segar. He co-created no major characters but is best known for preserving and contextualizing classic material through his editorial and writing projects. His later life has focused on historical research and writing, with his expertise sought for museum exhibits and documentaries. Marschall has received no major awards listed in available sources, but his influence endures through his meticulous archival work and his role as a bridge between the golden age of comic strips and modern readers.
