Mick Austin
2000–
Mick Austin is a British fine artist and former comic book illustrator, best known for his painterly covers and interior work on *2000 AD* and *Doctor Who Monthly* from the early 1980s through the mid-1990s. Born in 2000 in the United Kingdom, he began his comics career in 1981, contributing as an artist, colorist, and inker across 40 issues. His most frequent credits appear on *2000 AD*, *Doctor Who Monthly*, and *Doctor Who Classics Series 2*, as well as *Blake’s 7* and *Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files*. Austin’s lush, atmospheric style—marked by strong composition and a fine-art sensibility—set him apart from the more typical line-heavy approach of the era. In 1996, he left comics to focus entirely on fine art, where he continues to work today. While he did not co-create major ongoing characters, his distinctive visual contributions to the *Doctor Who* and *Judge Dredd* universes remain fondly remembered by fans. No major awards are recorded for his comic work, but his transition to fine art has sustained his creative practice into the 2020s.
