Martin Asbury
Martin Asbury, a British comic and storyboard artist, is best known for his long run drawing the *Daily Mirror*’s *Garth* strip from 1976 to 1997, and for his color television adaptations in the weekly *Look-in* magazine. Born in the United Kingdom, Asbury entered the comics field in the late 1960s, with his earliest credited work appearing in 1969 on titles such as *TV21 & Joe 90*. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, he contributed as an artist, colorist, inker, and writer to more than 70 issues, with his most frequent credits on *TV21*, *Agent X9*, *Look-In*, and *Doctor Who: Classic Comics*. His style combined clean, dynamic linework with vivid coloring, especially suited to adapting TV properties for the page. Asbury collaborated with writers and editors on these serialized adventures, though his most sustained partnership was with the *Garth* strip, where he brought the fantasy-adventure hero to life for over two decades. Later in his career, he worked in storyboarding for film and television. Asbury’s legacy rests on his steady, professional craftsmanship during a transformative era in British comics, bridging newspaper strips and licensed TV tie-ins. He passed away in 2016.
