Les McClaine
1977–
Les McClaine was born on September 30, 1977, in Ventura, California, and grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he worked at the public library. After graduating high school, he studied sequential art at the Savannah College of Art and Design, graduating cum laude. McClaine is best known as the creator of the comic series *Highway 13* for Slave Labor Graphics, which ran for ten issues, and the autobiographical webcomic *Life With Leslie*, later collected as *Repeat Until Death*. His most prominent collaboration has been with writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach on *The Middle Man*, published by Viper Comics, which was adapted into a 2008 television series. McClaine also contributed to *The Tick* from New England Comics and worked as a character designer for the TV adaptations of *Axe Cop*, *Major Lazer*, and *Golan the Insatiable*. In 2005, his adventure webcomic *Jonny Crossbones* earned him an Eisner Award nomination for Best Digital Comic. He has also illustrated for the *Portland Mercury* newspaper. Now based in Portland, Oregon, McClaine continues to produce *Jonny Crossbones* and has contributed to educational graphic novels like *Maker Comics: Live Sustainably!*. His catalog spans over two decades, with credits as artist, inker, or letterer on 16 issues between 2001 and 2022.
