Ken Ernst was a comic strip and comic book artist best known for his decades-long run on the newspaper strip *Mary Worth*, which he drew from 1942 until his death. Born Kenneth Frederick Ernst in 1918, he brought a polished, realistic style to the feature during an era when many strips favored a looser, more cartoonish look, helping to establish the visual language of the soap-opera comic strip. Ernst took over *Mary Worth* from its original artist and remained its primary illustrator for over 40 years. His detailed, naturalistic approach gave the daily narratives a grounded, serious tone that proved influential on later dramatic strips. While his most prominent work was in newspapers, he also contributed to comic books, with credits on titles such as *Super Comics*, *Love Stories of Mary Worth*, and *Harvey Comics Hits* across a career that spanned from the early 1940s into the mid-1980s. Ernst died on August 6, 1985. His steady hand on *Mary Worth* made him a quiet but significant figure in the evolution of the continuity strip, and his work remains a benchmark for the genre.
