Kazuki Takahashi

Born Kazuo Takahashi on October 4, 1961, in Tokyo, Japan, and known professionally as Kazuki Takahashi, he is best remembered as the creator of the global phenomenon *Yu-Gi-Oh!* He began his career in manga in the early 1990s, contributing to *Weekly Shōnen Jump* before launching *Yu-Gi-Oh!* in 1996. The series, which ran until 2004, combined his love for games, mythology, and dramatic storytelling, and it quickly evolved into a multimedia empire. The trading card game it inspired holds the Guinness World Record as the best-selling of its kind. Takahashi’s art style was dynamic and expressive, with a focus on intricate monster designs and intense duel sequences. He collaborated closely with Shueisha and later with Konami on the card game’s development. Beyond *Yu-Gi-Oh!*, he contributed to Marvel’s *Secret Reverse* and other projects. Takahashi died on July 4, 2022, at age 60. His legacy endures through the ongoing popularity of the franchise, which introduced millions to manga and gaming. He received numerous industry honors, including the Inkpot Award in 2015.
