Kazuki Takahashi
Born Kazuo Takahashi on October 4, 1961, in Tokyo, Japan, and known professionally as Kazuki Takahashi, he is best remembered as the creator of the global phenomenon *Yu-Gi-Oh!* He began his career in manga in the early 1990s, contributing to *Weekly Shōnen Jump* before launching *Yu-Gi-Oh!* in 1996. The series, which ran until 2004, combined his love for games, mythology, and dramatic storytelling, and it quickly evolved into a multimedia empire. The trading card game it inspired holds the Guinness World Record as the best-selling of its kind. Takahashi’s art style was dynamic and expressive, with a focus on intricate monster designs and intense duel sequences. He collaborated closely with Shueisha and later with Konami on the card game’s development. Beyond *Yu-Gi-Oh!*, he contributed to Marvel’s *Secret Reverse* and other projects. Takahashi died on July 4, 2022, at age 60. His legacy endures through the ongoing popularity of the franchise, which introduced millions to manga and gaming.
