John Porcellino was born on September 18, 1968, and is an American cartoonist best known for his long-running, self-published minicomic series *King-Cat Comics*. He launched the photocopied, mostly autobiographical series in May 1989 and has released 79 issues to date, making it one of the most enduring and respected minicomics in the field. Porcellino’s path into comics was a solitary, DIY one—he wrote, drew, lettered, inked, and colored his work, often handling distribution himself. His signature style is spare and minimalist, using simple linework and quiet, reflective storytelling to capture everyday moments and emotional truths. He has collaborated with other artists on projects like *Thoreau at Walden* and contributed to anthologies such as *The Graphic Canon*. Among his notable co-creations are the collections *Perfect Example* and *Silly Cat*, as well as the *King-Cat Classix* reprint series. Later in his career, Porcellino continued to self-publish and gained a devoted following for his honest, meditative approach to memoir. He has received several major awards, including an Ignatz Award and a Harvey Award, recognizing his influence on independent comics and the minicomics movement.
