Joakim Pirinen was born on 28 May 1961 in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden. He emerged as a key figure in the 1980s wave of artistic, adult-oriented comics in Sweden, becoming a regular contributor to the influential alternative comics magazine *Galago*. His comic album debut came in 1984 with *Välkommen Till Sandlådan* ("Welcome to the Sandbox"), but his true breakthrough arrived the following year with *Socker-Conny* ("Sugar-Conny"), a graphic novel centered on an anarchistic borderline personality. Pirinen is best known for his raw, expressive linework and darkly humorous storytelling, often collaborating with fellow Swedish alternative cartoonists. His signature style blends surrealism with sharp social observation. Over his career, he has worked as artist, inker, letterer, and writer on numerous projects, with his most credited titles including *Galago*, *Komisario Neliön välähdys*, *Gas*, *Ingens bästa vän*, *Döda paret och deras "vänner"*, and *Den universella bristen på respekt*. Active from 1983 to 2014, Pirinen remains a respected figure in Swedish comics, known for his uncompromising vision and influence on the country's alternative scene.
