Ian Carr
Ian Carr (21 April 1933 – 25 February 2009) was a Scottish jazz musician, composer, and educator who also worked in American comic books from 1981 to 2004. Born in Scotland, Carr is best known in the comics field for his contributions to small-press and independent titles, particularly *The Adventurers* and its sequels *Adventurers Book II* and *Adventurers Book III*, as well as *The Magazine - Not for Adults*, *Les Jeunes Canadiens*, and *Charlton Bullseye*. Over 21 issues, he served as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer, though his primary role was as an illustrator. His style was detailed and narrative-driven, suited to adventure and character-focused stories. Carr’s main comics collaborators remain unrecorded, but his work appeared alongside other independent creators of the era. Outside comics, Carr was a noted jazz musician, co-leading the Rendell-Carr quintet and the fusion band Nucleus, and he taught as an associate professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He also authored biographies of Keith Jarrett and Miles Davis. Carr’s legacy in comics is modest but reflects a versatile creative life, bridging music and sequential art. He received no major comics awards.
