Henry Gammidge
1915–1981
Henry Gammidge was the British writer who adapted Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels into a long-running newspaper comic strip, launching the 007 franchise into comics. Born Henry Francis Gammidge in 1915, he began working on the strip for the *Daily Express* in 1958, with artist John McLusky providing the illustrations. Over the next eight years, Gammidge scripted eleven Bond storylines, the last appearing in early 1966. His adaptations helped introduce Bond to a global audience through syndication. Beyond 007, Gammidge also wrote the strip *Marilyn*. His career in comics spanned from the mid-1950s into the 1960s, with his work later collected in volumes such as *The James Bond Omnibus*. Gammidge died in 1981.
