Greg Theakston

Greg Theakston was an American comics artist, illustrator, and historian, best known for his pioneering work in comic-book restoration and for his independent publishing imprint, Pure Imagination. Born Greg Allen Theakston on November 21, 1953, he began his career in the early 1970s, contributing to a range of titles as an artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer across 39 issues. His most-credited work includes *Super Powers*, *Secret Origins*, and *Captain America: The Classic Years*, as well as his own publications *Buried Treasure* and *Pure Images*. Theakston also occasionally used the pseudonym Earl P. Wooten. He is perhaps most widely recognized for developing the Theakstonizing process, a technique for restoring and preserving vintage comic pages, which became a standard in the industry. Throughout his career, he collaborated with numerous creators and publishers, leaving a mark on both mainstream and independent comics. Theakston passed away on April 22, 2019, at age 65. His legacy endures through his restoration innovations and the historical archives he helped preserve, earning him respect as a dedicated craftsman and historian of the medium.
