Glenn Dakin

Glenn Dakin, born in 1960, is a British cartoonist and children's author who emerged from the UK's vibrant small-press comics scene of the 1980s. He contributed to influential magazines like *Escape* and *Deadline*, where his semi-autobiographical strip *Abe* and the series *Temptation* became signature works. His path into comics began in the alternative press, where he honed a distinctive, often wryly observational style. Dakin is best known for creating the *Candle Man* book series, but his comic work spans both creator-owned and mainstream projects. He collaborated with writer/artist John Smith on *ClanDestine* and *Paris the Man of Plaster*, and contributed to *Death's Head II & the Origin of Die-Cut*. His art and writing credits appear on 39 issues from 1984 to 2020, with notable runs on *Fast Fiction* and *Plasmer*. Dakin's later career shifted toward children's literature, though his influence remains in the British small-press legacy. He has not received major mainstream awards, but his work is respected for its quiet, character-driven storytelling and its role in bridging underground and licensed comics.
