Edward Benton Dodd, born November 7, 1902, in the United States, was a cartoonist best remembered as the creator of the long-running newspaper strip *Mark Trail*. He began his career in the late 1930s, contributing to titles such as *Safari*, *Tip Top Comics*, and *Sparkle Comics* through the 1960s. Dodd’s work often reflected his deep interest in the outdoors, and *Mark Trail*, which debuted in 1946, became his signature achievement—a blend of adventure storytelling and nature education that ran for decades. He wrote, drew, and inked the strip, collaborating with assistants who later helped maintain its legacy. Dodd also produced standalone projects like *Mark Trail’s Adventure Book of Nature* and the graphic novel *Smash-Up at Big Rock*. His style was clean, realistic, and detail-oriented, emphasizing wildlife and landscape. Dodd passed away on May 27, 1991. While he did not receive major industry awards during his lifetime, *Mark Trail* earned a place in comic strip history for its environmental themes and was adapted into other media. His work remains a fondly remembered example of mid-century adventure comics.
