Danijel Žeželj
1966–
Danijel Žeželj was born on 7 December 1966 in Croatia, where he developed a career as a comic book artist, animator, painter, and illustrator. He is best known for his moody, expressionistic black-and-white artwork, which brought a distinct European sensibility to American comics. Žeželj entered the industry in the late 1990s, and from 1999 through 2024 he contributed to over sixty issues, most notably as artist on *Loveless*, *Superman: Metropolis*, *Northlanders*, *El Diablo*, *Congo Bill*, and *Starve*. His style—marked by heavy inks, stark contrasts, and a raw, almost sculptural line—made him a frequent collaborator with writers like Brian Azzarello and Jason Aaron, with whom he co-created the Vertigo series *Loveless*. He also wrote and drew his own graphic novels, blending noir, horror, and historical themes. Later in his career, Žeželj continued to work across media, producing animation and paintings alongside comics. His contributions have been recognized with major awards, including multiple Eisner Award nominations for best artist and best limited series. Today, he remains a respected figure in European and American comics, admired for his uncompromising visual storytelling.
