Superman: Metropolis #3
This 2003 DC miniseries continues with a striking cover by Danijel Žeželj that frames Metropolis itself as a kind of mythology — a bold red demon-like figure looms large in the foreground, flexing with unsettling confidence, while a cheerful Superman tourist postcard and "Made in Metropolis" imagery surround it in a collage of civic pride and lurking menace. The contrast between the Man of Steel's wholesome image and this sinister figure gives the cover a genuinely provocative edge. Chuck Austen and Žeželj's story, titled "Purpose," promises to dig into the city's soul in ways that go well beyond the sunny welcome sign.
