Bob Burden
Bob Burden is an American comic book writer and artist, best known for creating *Flaming Carrot Comics* and the ensemble of characters that became the *Mystery Men*. He was born in the United States, though specific dates and locations are not widely recorded. Burden entered the comics scene in the early 1980s, self-publishing the first *Flaming Carrot* stories with a distinctive, offbeat sensibility that blended absurdist humor, pulp adventure, and a love of classic superhero tropes. His signature work, *Flaming Carrot Comics*, ran from 1981 through the 1990s and introduced a surreal world of bizarre heroes and villains. Burden’s style is loose, energetic, and cartoonish, often serving his deadpan, joke-dense writing. He collaborated with a range of artists and writers on spin-offs and crossovers, including a notable team-up with *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles*. The *Mystery Men*—a group of low-rent, eccentric vigilantes—were his co-creation and later inspired a 1999 feature film. Burden’s later career included contributions to *Cerebus* and the anthology *Commando*. He received an Eisner Award nomination for Best Humor Publication for *Flaming Carrot Comics*. His work remains a cult touchstone for its singular, playful voice and influence on independent comics.
