Bjørn Ousland
b. 1959
Bjørn Ousland, born 14 May 1959, is a Norwegian illustrator, children’s author, and comics writer. He first gained wide attention with *Solruns saga*, a fantasy album series he wrote and drew from 1988 to 1993. Ousland later turned to Norwegian fairy tales for inspiration, adapting stories into graphic albums such as *Mumle Gåsegg* (1999), *Soria Moria slott* (2000), and *Grimsborken* (2002). His clean, expressive linework and strong sense of color made him a natural fit for both children’s books and comic strips. Over a career spanning from 1983 to 2023, he contributed to dozens of issues across series like *Polarbøkene*, *Polarserien*, *Pyton*, and *Humor og kanari*. In 2007, he shared the Brage Prize (open class) with writer Jon Ewo for their collaborative work. Ousland’s ability to move between original fantasy and traditional folklore, while maintaining a consistent and inviting visual style, has made him a respected figure in Norwegian comics and illustration.
