Al Kilgore
Al Kilgore was an American cartoonist and filmmaker, best known for his long-running work on comic book adaptations of *The Bullwinkle Show*. Born Alfred R. Kilgore on December 19, 1927, in Newark, New Jersey, he attended Andrew Jackson High School, where he played basketball with a future Hall of Famer, Bob Cousy. There he also met Dolores Preusch, whom he married in 1958. After serving in the Fifth Air Force during World War II, Kilgore studied art, graduating from the Art Career School in 1951.
His career in comics spanned from 1960 into the 2010s, with his most prolific work appearing on titles such as *Bullwinkle*, *Four Color*, and *Bullwinkle and Rocky*. He served as artist, inker, and writer across 27 issues, bringing a clean, lively cartoon style to the antics of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Kilgore also contributed to *Pep* and later worked on *The Bullwinkle Mother Moose Nursery Pomes* and the German-language *Comiczeit mit Adelheid*. He died on August 15, 1983. While not a major award winner, his steady, character-driven work helped define the look of these beloved animated characters in print.
