Ymir
Ymir is the primordial Frost Giant of Norse mythology, adapted into Marvel's cosmos as an ancient, towering being of living ice who existed at the dawn of creation. He stands as one of the oldest and most formidable creatures in the Nine Realms.
Born of frost and myth, Ymir is one of Marvel's great primordial forces β a towering figure of Norse legend brought thunderously to life by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the Silver Age debut of Marvel Collectors' Item Classics #1 (1965). Over nearly six decades of publication, this ancient giant has loomed large across the Thor corner of the Marvel Universe, sharing the frozen pages with Asgard's mightiest β Thor, Odin, Balder, and the ever-scheming Loki. With appearances concentrated in Thor, Thor: Tales of Asgard, and Thor: The Trial of Thor, Ymir is woven into the very cosmological fabric of Marvel's mythological storytelling, and two of those appearances carry genuine key-issue weight for collectors. Twenty-six catalog appearances may sound modest, but for a creature of such elemental scale and Kirby-forged grandeur, every one counts.
