Who is Turok?

Turok is a Native American warrior who, along with his young companion Andar, becomes trapped in a hidden prehistoric valley filled with dinosaurs and other ancient creatures. Armed with primitive weapons, he must survive while seeking a way back to the outside world.

Few characters from the twilight of the Golden Age managed to carve out a quarter-century of adventures, but Turok did exactly that — debuting in 1954 courtesy of creators Gaylord Du Bois and Rex Maxon, and going on to headline his own long-running Western Publishing series, Turok, Son of Stone. A fixture of that beloved Dell/Western era of comics, he's a genuinely distinctive figure whose stories unfolded across decades alongside the recurring presence of Andar. His 1954 Four Color debut marks him as a true artifact of a formative moment in American comics history, and for collectors who love that mid-century adventure spirit, Turok represents one of the most enduring original characters the era produced.
