Who is Simyan?

Simyan is a genetically engineered ape-like villain created by Jack Kirby as part of the Fourth World saga. He serves as a minion of Darkseid, operating alongside his partner Mokkari to run the Evil Factory — a sinister laboratory producing monstrous creatures to threaten Earth.

Simyan slithered into the DC Universe in 1971, a Bronze Age creation of the legendary Jack Kirby debuting in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen — one of Kirby's celebrated runs that reshaped the Man of Steel's corner of the DC cosmos. A sinister presence who keeps dark company alongside the likes of Mokkari, Superman, Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen, and even Green Lantern across his appearances, Simyan is the kind of villain whose menace echoes through decades, turning up in Superman, Batman, and beyond across nearly 40 years of comics history. With only a handful of catalog appearances, every issue featuring Simyan carries real weight for the Kirby completist or Fourth World devotee hunting down the full, strange tapestry of Bronze Age DC.
