Nerdmaster
Few characters wear their identity as boldly as Nerdmaster, who burst onto the Firebird Press scene in 1989 courtesy of creator Sherman Burnett and the pages of Energons. A product of comics' Copper Age energy — that scrappy, inventive era when independent publishers were pushing boundaries alongside the big guns — Nerdmaster carved out a niche in a universe populated by the likes of Vortex, Neutron, Twister, General Travers, and Micron, a roster that suggests Energons had no shortage of ambition. The run was brief, spanning into the early '90s, and with only four catalog appearances Nerdmaster is genuinely rare territory — the kind of discovery that makes digging through back-issue bins so rewarding for collectors who love finding a forgotten gem from a publisher willing to do things their own way.
