Mr. Giles

Rupert Giles is the Watcher and librarian from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe — mentor to Buffy Summers and her allies in the fight against vampires and supernatural threats — whose adventures continued in Dark Horse comics adaptations beginning in 1999.

Stepping out of the beloved Buffyverse and onto the comics page, Mr. Giles made his Dark Horse debut in 1999, brought to life by Shannon Wheeler in the pages of Dark Horse Extra — an eclectic anthology that also housed the likes of Hellboy and Too Much Coffee Man, making for some gloriously unexpected company. This Modern Age figure went on to appear across titles including Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Lost and Found and the landmark Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, sharing adventures with Willow Rosenberg and Buffy Summers herself through 2007. With only eight catalog appearances, he's a compact but meaningful presence for any devoted Buffy comics completist — the kind of character whose scarcity makes tracking him down all the more rewarding.
