Mordecai Midas
Mordecai Midas is a wealthy, obsessive Marvel villain whose name evokes the mythic king of gold — a fitting identity for a scheming magnate who fixates on power and riches and repeatedly clashes with Tony Stark as Iron Man.
Gilded villainy has rarely looked so polished as with Mordecai Midas, the Marvel schemer who made his Silver Age entrance in Iron Man #17 back in 1969, conjured by the sharp minds of Archie Goodwin and George Tuska. His debut issue carries collector-significant key status, a fitting distinction for a character whose name alone drips with mythic ambition. Over a remarkable span stretching from the late sixties all the way to 2026, he's kept rarefied company — sharing pages with Tony Stark, Iron Man himself, and the enigmatic Madame Masque, among others — across the pages of Iron Man and Ultimates. Five appearances may be a lean count, but when you debut in a key issue and linger in Marvel's universe for more than half a century, you've clearly left a mark worth tracking down.
