Montgomery Wart
Montgomery Wart made his entrance in 1992, born from the wonderfully strange creative partnership of Mark Martin and Jim Woodring in Tantalizing Stories Presents Frank in the River — a debut that immediately plants him in the fertile, anything-goes soil of the Copper/Modern Age's indie underground. Published through Tundra and turning up across Tantalizing Stories, Runaway Comics, and Scatterbrain over a span of fourteen years, he's a citizen of one of the most gloriously peculiar corners of alternative comics, sharing pages with the likes of Frank, Manhog, and Monk. With only eleven catalog appearances, Montgomery Wart is a rare find — the kind of offbeat, blink-and-you'll-miss-him figure that makes digging through small-press back issues such a rewarding treasure hunt.
