Who is Mister Mxyzptlk?

Mister Mxyzptlk is a mischievous imp from the Fifth Dimension who uses reality-bending magic to torment Superman with elaborate pranks. The only way to banish him back to his home dimension is to trick him into saying or spelling his own name backwards.

Few figures in DC's Silver Age roster capture the sheer anarchic delight of comics like Mister Mxyzptlk, who burst onto the scene in Superman #202 in 1967, courtesy of Otto Binder and Wayne Boring. Over a remarkable 43-year publishing span, this imp has kept extraordinary company — sharing pages with Superman, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, and Bruce Wayne across titles like Superman, Super Friends, and Superboy Spectacular. There's something wonderfully enduring about a character who can hold his own alongside the very pillars of the DC universe for decades, and collectors with an eye for Silver Age charm would do well to seek him out.
