Who is Meathook?

Few corners of the early '90s comics landscape crackled with as much raw ambition as Malibu's Ultraverse, and Meathook is one of the rougher, more dangerous-edged figures to emerge from that era. Debuting in Hardcase #7 in 1993 — courtesy of James Hudnall and Scott Benefiel — this character arrived in a publisher's universe that was genuinely swinging for the fences. Sharing pages with the likes of Prototype, Death Dance, and Gate, Meathook keeps some genuinely intense company, and their appearances stretch into the landmark Phoenix Resurrection crossover, marking them as more than a one-issue curiosity. With only a handful of catalog appearances, Meathook is the kind of deep-cut Ultraverse find that rewards the dedicated collector hunting through one of comics' most underappreciated short-lived universes.
