Who is Jay?

Jay is a supporting character in Peter Bagge's sardonic alt-comics series Hate, inhabiting the same slacker Seattle social world as protagonist Buddy Bradley and his circle of friends and acquaintances.

Peter Bagge's Hate was one of the sharpest, most gloriously abrasive slices of 1990s alternative comics, and Jay has been part of that world since 1994, debuting in issue #17 alongside the likes of Buddy Bradley, Lisa Leavenworth, and Jimmy Foley. A Fantagraphics fixture across both Hate and the Hate Annual, Jay kept showing up in Bagge's sardonic universe for over a decade β€” a modest but persistent presence in one of the Copper/Modern Age's most celebrated underground-flavored series. If you're diving into the full, gloriously dysfunctional ensemble that made Hate a touchstone of '90s alt-comics, Jay is one of those recurring faces worth tracking down.
