Hook
Few comics have swum in quite as distinctive waters as The Fish Police, Steve Moncuse's wonderfully offbeat Copper Age creation from Fishwrap Productions — and Hook is one of the characters who helps make that undersea noir world so memorable. Debuting in issue #2 back in 1986, Hook shares the pages with a cast as colorful as a coral reef, rubbing fins with the likes of Inspector Gill, Oscar the Octopus, and Angelfish across the series' 1986–1991 run. With a dozen catalog appearances, Hook may not dominate the spotlight, but that's part of the charm of Fish Police — every character in Moncuse's hand-crafted world earns their place in the tank. If you've got a soft spot for indie comics with genuine personality and a creator-driven vision, this is exactly the kind of deep cut worth diving after.
